Our mission at MASLOW is to bridge the gap for 16+ young people transitioning between childhood to adulthood providing them with a continuing pathway to independence. Our user group will be children looked after (CLA), care leavers and unaccompanied minors in Medway and Kent who are leaving residential/fostering homes.
Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a motivational theory in psychology comprising a five-tier model of human needs. From the bottom of the hierarchy upwards, the needs are: physiological (food, warmth and clothing), safety (security, stability and access to universal services), and love and belonging needs (forming safe relationships, characterised by trust and respect). Abraham Maslow recognised that needs lower down in the hierarchy must be satisfied before individuals can attend to needs higher up, such as esteem and self-actualisation. MASLOW RESIDENTIAL SUPPORT SERVICES was created with this in mind and aims to support young people who for a variety of reasons have not been able to achieve one or more of the levels.
We believe that each young person has the capabilities and potential to succeed and prosper in life, with the right foundation.
We also believe that the most vital aspect of a young person’s successful transition into adult life is, stable accommodation that they can emotionally invest in, strong support systems (emotional/ practical), trusted adult role models, and the right guidance.
MASLOW aims to understand and prioritise each young person’s needs, and to support them to identify what their needs are according to that individual’s goals.
